3/4/2016

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY:
We will no longer be offering a service where we ship your guitar to someone else, because you sold it.
If you have already submitted the shipping form, then we will honour the deal we offered. No changes there.
If you havent submitted the form, too bad.
We tried. People didnt want to play fair. So we won't bother.
This only effects a couple people, so they can submit their outrage below. For everyone else, we have now stomped on yet another time wasting thingsmile emoticon

UPDATE RUN ONE: Cases - March 29th

3/4/2016

UPDATE RUN ONE:
If it's not one things it's another....
We have started putting guitars in cases. Despite repeated assurances the case internals were as specified, one supplier has obviously changed specs and sent cases which do not fit the HyperGTR models.
The first samples we got were perfect. However, following orders are not. We are not going to send back 70 cases.
We will modify these to suit. This involves cutting some internal foam wall away, and carefully retrimming that area.
We will do the best job possible, but in some cases it may not have a factory appearance.
It will mean you lose the use of one compartment area.
If this is unsatisfactory to you, you'll need to email "orders atormsbyguitars.com" and request 'amendment - no case required - your full name' as the subject. You'll be credited for the case.
Sorry!
Run two has form fitted cases so we will not have to go through this bullshit again. There is no option available to wait for run two cases unfortunately.

Lefties are printed wrong. We will sort that out and ship them at a later date to avoid delays.
We can FINALLY start shipping!!!!!
(If you do not have a shipping invoice from Paypal yet, it is because we are not ready to send one to you. Be patient. We will not leave any soldiers on the battlefield)

UPDATE RUN TWO: March 26th

RUN ONE/TWO UPDATE - SPARES:
So, we are ripping through run one, and will be posting guitars out as soon as the replacement back plates arrive. Tracking suggested friday delivery, but it was good friday, so i guess its tuesday.
Cases have been arriving, and we have about 100 cases here. Another 100 still due.
So far we SHOULD have around 30-35 spares after dealers get a few extras, and we sort out the endorsees. Some spares have paint blemishes, eg: a sanding scratch, or we've knocked it and chipped the finish. These will be resprayed in unique finishes to see how people react to new colours etc. This will take some time. There are only 3 so far, so by the time we get through everything, maybe 6?
Run two, we ordered a lot more spares. We rolled over all funds from run one, into run two. Then, with the delays of run one, meant there were obviously delays with run two. So, I convinced WMI to let me add in some more.... and then some more... and some dealers bought lots, so we added more, and then all the sales at NAMM... add more... and then because i couldnt get up to korea until mid April, i was like "another 20 please?"
Originally we were in for 268 guitars for run two. I added 100 spares. And over time we've added an extra 120. So there will be LOTS of spares. In fact, run two has more spares than run one had in total. Reinvesting!
All the spares are the same spec as the rest, except around 100 guitars (walnut and quilt hypes) which have Alder instead of Swamp Ash. Everyone who pre-ordered one of those exotic top Hypes gets Swamp Ash.
Im not sure if we will pre-sell the Run Two spares, or wait until all of Run Two has shipped. Either way, people who buy spares wont get them any faster if we release them earlier, but i does mean we can reinvest that cashflow into Run 3/4/5. We will probably also hold on to a bunch (70-80?) guitars and keep them for the end of the year. That way we can "re-release" the Walnut and Quilt models, without having to go through the whole order process again.
Pics: These Walnut tops are spares, we got all spares made with Alder bodies instead of Swamp Ash.

UPDATE RUN ONE: March 16th

3/4/2016

UPDATE RUN ONE:
Ok, we are progressing well, and are slightly ahead of schedule (about a half day). The new sequence is much more efficient.
Ive pushed forwards and fret levelled 15 extra guitars for Jett and Sophia to get onto tomorrow and the next day.
We expect the first round of cases for Hypes to arrive on Friday, with more coming Wednesday. We have about 60 cases here already to suit SXs, but more are coming.
First round of guitars start shipping out Wednesday, and we hope to do 10-15 a day. Before then, you'll get an email invoice for shipping/setup/extras, or a refund into your paypal if you chose the no case option (assuming shipping didnt eat it up).
Local guys can pickup from the factory after Tuesday. We will email you guys also.
There are not too many people that dont have the shipping form email just yet. I think maybe 40 people. We will be sending you the email late next week.
Im heading to F1 Melbourne tomorrow until Monday noon, but will be working through the easter break (next weekend) instead of taking that time off.
If you're in Melbourne, dont forget Hollow World have a gig saturday night.

UPDATE RUN 1+3 - CUSTOMSHOP STUFF - FUTURE RUNS - ETC: March 15th

3/4/2016

UPDATE RUN 1+3 - CUSTOMSHOP STUFF - FUTURE RUNS - ETC:
So, we will have a total of FIVE variations of colours for Run Three.
Firstly, this is primarily an SX run, so four colours will be available: 6/7 string, no lefties
Clear Deep Blue over Flame Maple
Charcoal over Flame Maple
Azure Blue (Matte, not gloss)
... and one more TBA
Also, one HypeGTR model will be available: 6/7/8 string, no lefties
Natural Swamp Ash (Matte)
---
ETA for release of Run Three? Approximately 2-3 weeks. No fixed date, as we are working on Run 1 shipping and need to concentrate on that.
---
There will be THREE payment plans. Unfortunately, when we offered the "low deposit and lower monthly payments to help people out" plan during run 2, it caused no end of problems. Non payers, arguments (they get an email every payment with a tally direct from paypal, but still argue they are $500 ahead..), etc etc. So, we have decided to no longer offer this. We tried it, but it didnt work. Sorry.
The plans we will have are: (all aussie dollars)
OPTION 1: Pay in full ($50 shipping rebate applies)
OPTION 2: 3 x equal payments of $500, with a final invoice at shipping time.
OPTION 3: 1 x $500 deposit, plus 3 x $300 payments ($900), one per month, with a final invoice at shipping time.
So, the minimum you will need to pre-order, will be $500 AUD ($375 USD)
---
There will not be a "Limited Ten", like we did for Run 2. Don't know what that is? Don't worry...
---
We are CONSIDERING a two price structure:
One for Aussies (in AUD). One for 'rest of world' in USD. Ultimately, the same price, but it protects us against movements in exchange rates, keeps payments consistent, and makes it easier for our overseas buyers to see the true price (rather than convert from AUD, or be confused by a higher number they think is USD but isnt...)
The future: There will be a change in pricing later this year. It may be that the pricing stays the same, but cases become an optional extra. Run 1 was always a "introductory price", and it was supposed to be revised for either run two or three. We will hold out until run five if we can.
---
Run 1 was a total of 257 guitars.
Run 2, 368.
Run 3 will be no more than 250 pre-orders. We will be limiting the volume for our sanity. Future runs will be the same or smaller.
---
Run 4 will be approximately 6-8 weeks after Run 3. It will feature the HypeGTR model in FOUR colours (2 x paint, 2 x exotic tops), plus a special TX model (most likely a one off model)
As we move forward, we would like to do something LIKE this:
Every second run is a HypeGTR run. Alternative runs are model specific, eg: SX, TX, Goliath, Metal, Split Top, etc etc. In addition to every ALTERNATIVE run, we offer a single HypeGTR model in very cut down specs. No fancy tops, etc. For every main HypeGTR run, we offer one of the other models as a single cut down version (mahogany TX in matte clear, for example).
Goliath: We are still developing hardware. We hope to have a manufacturing date of late September, which means a release date of mid May.
We have ordered 30 prototypes to be built of various models and colours, as predictions of where we will head over the next 12 months. We have ordered: Metal, Split Top, TX, Hype, SX, Goliath, and two new models being straight scale single and double cutaway shapes.
---
Some changes will be implemented, regarding colour changes and cancellations. To date we have been EXTREMELY accommodating. Unfortunately, people have been taking advantage of this. The new rules will be fair, but firm. They will be much more generous than the law allows us to be. We will also be bringing in a "no change of ownership" rule. Our contract will be with the original purchaser, and no one else. We will not ship to anyone else. We are currently experiencing major issues between original purchasers, and new owners, before their guitars have even shipped. New buyers just want a guitar. Old clients dont want to settle the bill or confirm a sale. New clients are filling in the form for shipping. We can cross reference it against a sale... No more.
---
CustomShop runs: We were going to announce something this month. But, we have too many cool projects we want to do instead, so there will be no announcements yet. What I can say is this: runs will be smaller, but more often.
SemiCustom runs: nothing new to report, we are still working out the finer details.
---
Run 1 stuff:
We have been setting up guitars, checking frets, and if needed, fret levelling, then removing strings to polish frets, adjust pickups, etc etc etc etc. We trialled a new sequence, that simply bypasses the first check altogether, and goes straight to a full fret level REGARDLESS of if it needs it or not (one swipe of the fret level file and we can see anyway). It's actually quicker this way, by a long shot.
Our QC sequence: (*indicates we move to a new member of the team so we are all working on the same guitars and can potentially see more issues easier, each guitar is viewed at least six times by up to four people)

Run 1 spares:
Will be released when we are ready to release them. Pestering us will not give you priority. smile emoticon Just be patient.
Blem stock:
If we find any guitars with paint blemishes that we do not feel are within spec, we will be respraying them. They will be unique colours not available in the normal runs, so we can experiment and see what looks nice. These will then be offered up at a later date.
---
Future stuff:
We are planning to move into a larger premise later this year. This will give us a heap more space for stockpiling timbers (we are over capacity right now, my spa has been emptied and used for storage), cases (my patio is like case tetris right now), shipping boxes (games room? WHAT GAMES ROOM!), and also allow us to keep stock of GTRs so that runs are less important.
We would also love a small showroom for the local guys, and to bring back the guitar making courses.
At the moment, we could easily handle an extra set of hands around the shop for basic stuff like cleaning and sorting out bits and pieces, but with three of us full time its quite cramped.
We do have a couple locations we are looking at, one being the very same location we started at 12 years ago, but the main workshop, not the side room smile emoticon
---
Dealers:
So far, signed on, with stock arriving soon:
Red Dragon Guitars (USA) (Jon Pugh)
Lefties Guitar Emporium (AUS - NSW) (mostly lefty stock but some righties, Troi Darlington)
Goodger Music (AUS - QLD) (Nathan Goodger)
Kosmic Sound (AUS - WA) (Alex Lassetter)
Been talking with a LOT more, but, they are all dragging their feet. So, we continue to do direct sales for now...
The End

RUN one: QC - March 14th

Because we had planned to do all QC with Matt here, and he recently left us to go back to the USA, we have put on Dave to assist with setups and intonation. Dave works for the largest local music store doing repairs, but will be joining us for a few days a week just to help out so we don't risk running behind schedule. Dave is an extremely good friend, and a gun tech, so we are looking forward to having him as a fourth set of eyes looking over things smile emoticon

UPDATE EMAILS RUN ONE: March 13th

3/4/2016

Two things!

1.
EMAILS ABOUT TO GO OUT (another 25-30 only) Update, we did 86!
We are about to send out a bunch more shipping details emails. If you dont get one, here is what you do:
Chill out.
If at any point you feel the need to chase us up and ask why you dont have an email yet, this is what you do:
Chill out some more
IF YOU MISS THE EMAIL, IT DOESNT ARRIVE, OR YOU HAVE CHANGED YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS...... IT WONT MAKE A SINGLE DIFFERENCE BECAUSE WE WILL TAG YOU IF WE DONT HEAR FROM YOU WITHIN A FEW DAYS.
In other words, chill. If you think you need to maybe possibly check up on those email by contacting me, forget that and chill again.
----
2.
HAVE YOU SOLD A PRE-ORDER TO SOMEONE ELSE, OR PURCHASED FROM ANYONE BUT ME (or a dealer)?
(if you bought a guitar off someone, then TAG THEM IN THIS THREAD)
Read the email. Read it twice. The email goes to the original buyer. The original buyer fills in the form.
Read the form before you fill it in. Read it as you are filling it in. Follow the instructions.
The original owner will be billed for any remaining amount. I do no care what you sold the guitar for. I do not care what your deal was. Your contract is with me. You may or may not owe me money.
Already, it seems as though some people are trying to process their orders without following our instructions. The new rule for people who have sold to others:
Fill in the form wrong, and we put your order to the very back. Im sure your buyer will be impressed, and may start the refund process with you.
We are doing you a massive favour, which is really mucking us around at the expense of clients who have proven to be more loyal. I have zero issues with delaying your orders in favour of those who actually want guitars.
Work WITH US, not AGAINST US.
Thanks!!
