We have previously made a carbon fibre guitars for NAMM in 2016 (SX model), and had a lot of fun with it, so why not do it again?
The top is 2mm thick 1x1 weave pure carbon fibre. It is bonded to a Swamp Ash body with our 'heavy chambering' pattern for extra weight relief and mid range. The Mahogany neck pieces were chosen from our collection for their ultra light weight, and then bonded with a layer of carbon fibre between each of the three laminations for extra strength. Whilst these carbon fibre are only thin, they do considerably add to the overall strength of the neck shaft. This allowed us to shape the neck thinner than would be normally acceptable for a Mahogany neck.
For the finish, we painted the body with a matte clear over black stained Swamp Ash, then mildly buffed the finish to give a unique look. The finish is thin, allowing the surface pores of the body wood to show through.
Richlite is a new composite material which is not only strong, but smooth feeling. Being a composite, it is impervious to humidity, moisture, and any weather effects that usually cause neck movement issues with natural timber fretboards. The material has been layered, with black and grey composite sheets, to create the striking look you see in the photos.
On the rear, machined alloy back plates identify this as a handmade CustomShop instrument.
